Maintenance Steps

1. Clean Water. You will use either a Bromine,Chlorine or Pro-Clear Mineral Sanitizer
2. Water Balance/Condition. This is important for both bather comfort and equipment function in your tub.
The Key is testing the water regularly with test strips. Always test your water before each time you use the tub to ensure that your water is safe (appropriate sanitizer) and also balanced (optimum bather comfort)
With your hot tub there are 3 varieties of different chemicals. They are:
1. Sanitizers and Shocks
a. Di-Chlor Chlorine Concentrate or Bromine tablets and Bromine concentrate.
b. Quick Clear or Shock n Soak - This is used to gas off organic matter in the water. The term shock means to take your Bromine or Chlorine level to 10ppm or more.
2. Water Balancers
a. pH Increaser - to raise the pH
b. pH Decreaser - to lower the pH
c. Alkalinity increaser - to balance the Alkalinity in the water. Alkalinity helps maintain pH
d. Calcium Hardness increaser - to Balance the hardness of your water
3. Maintenance products and Water Optimizers
a. Stain and Scale remover stops calcium and other minerals from scaling. It will coat the mineral molecule and not allow it to stick to anything.
b. Omni Presence - helps maintain pH and also gives the water a silky, smooth feeling
c. Eco One program - to reduce organics in the water and minimize the use of your sanitizer. Eco One includes products to cleanse your plumbing, maintain your filters and keep your water feeling great in its most natural state.
d. Clarifiers - to solve a problem of cloudy water. Makes small particles that normally pass through the filter stick together and make a bigger particle that will be trapped by the filter.
To maintain your hot tub, there are Start up procedures, regular/daily procedures, weekly procedures, monthly procedures and quarterly procedures.
Start up Procedures:
These apply to when you are filling your tub from empty:
1. Ensure that the shell of your hot tub has been wiped clean using Eco One Shell and Liner cleaner
2. Remove the Filter and place the hose in the filter compartment. The reason to fill the tub through the filter, is to push out any air that may be in the plumbing.
3. Fill the hot tub - bring the water level to above the top jets
4. Put in the new, Clean filter
5. Turn on the breaker and allow the water temperature to heat up to desired temperature
6. Add between 2 and 3 tablespoons of Di-Chlor/Chlorine Concentrate or Bromine Concentrate. If you are using bromine - add 3 pucks of bromine into your floater and adjust the flow according to demand. It will take you a few days to figure this out.
7. Add approximately 150 grams of Alkalinity increaser. Always test Alkalinity before adding any increaser. (TEST the water before adjusting the Alkalinity)
8. In 3 separate doses - waiting at least 45 minutes between each addition - add a total of between 300 and 450g of Calcium hardness increaser - Only add 150g at a time
9. Add Eco One Monthly dose
10. Test the water using your test strips. You water should be balanced and sanitized. You may need to make small adjustments to the pH, Alkalinity and Calcium. This will depend on your source water.
**Your Tub will now be balanced! You may need to make some very slight adjustments.
Regular/Daily Procedures
1. Always test your water before you use the tub. It is important to ensure your pH and Sanitizer levels are good. These two things will keep the tub safe for use and also ensure the water is in great shape for maximum bather comfort. If your pH is far outside of the 'good' range - be sure to adjust it prior to using the tub.
2. Add between 1 and 2 teaspoons of Chlorine/Bromine Concentrate after each use of the hot tub. *1 -2 teaspoon for 2 people - 2 or more teaspoons for 3 or more people.
Weekly Procedures
1. Use Omni Stain and Scale once per week. Follow the recommended dose on the bottle. You will notice a ring around the shell after using this product. This is a good thing - it means that your plumbing has been flushed out.
2. Use Omni Quick Clear non chlorinating shock. This will help gas off the organic matter in the water and increase the effectiveness of your sanitizer.
Monthly Procedures
1. If you are on the EcoOne program - add the Eco One monthly dose. This will pull organic matter out of the water and put it into the filters - where it should be
2. Clean your filters every 4-6 weeks. This makes it easier to maintain your water balance and reduce the over use of chemicals
3. If possible, bring your water into the store for testing.
Quarterly Procedures
1. Drain your hot tub every 3-4 months and fill with fresh, clean water. When you do this, follow these procedures:
a. Remove your dirty filters before step B and bring it into Prestige for free filter cleaning
b. The day before you are about to drain your tub, Use Eco One Jet ONE. This will purge the pluming of all organic matter and other unwanted scaling, rust or mineral build up. When you use this product, you may experience a lot of foaming in the water - this is normal.
c. Drain your tub into a sanitary drain (bathtub, sink) This is important for the environment
d. Use Eco One Shell and Liner cleaner to clean out your entire shell. Remove and clean your Pillows/Headrests. Remove and wipe down your filter skimmers.
e. Use EcoONE Cover cleaner/conditioner. This will condition the vinyl on your cover and help give your cover a longer life.
f. Your tub is now ready to refill with fresh, clean water. Refer to the start up procedures to bring your water into balance.
Common Hot Tub/Water problems that you may experience:
| Problem | Causes | Solution | Preventative Measures |
| Foamy Water | -Detergents or soaps, skin lotions, perfumes. These can be brought into the water by a swimsuit that wasn't properly rinsed. -High pH can contribute to foaming. -Low calcium can contribute to foaming. | -Ensure your pH and Calcium are balanced. Shock your Hot tub with a non Chlorinating Shock (Omni Quick Clear). -Remove and clean your filters. -Raise your Chlorine or Bromine levels above 10ppm and run the jets with the cover open for 2 20 minute cycles. | -Have a shower to rinse off before tubbing. Do NOT use soap or shampoo. -Thoroughly rinse your swimsuit before bathing. -Do not use lotions, perfumes or creams before using the tub - use them after. -Spa Naked! -Use a Non Chlorinating Shock once per week. |
| Scum/Stain Line and/ or Scaling | -Imbalanced Water | -Diligently check your water. -Use Stain and Scale once per week. -Use Jet One when draining your tub. | -Use Stain and Scale weekly.
-Check your water frequently. -Bring your water in for us to test. |
| Skin Irritation | -Low PH -Sanitizer too high -Bacteria because Sanitizer too low -Allergy to Chlorine or Bromine -Low Calcium | -Be sure to keep your water properly balanced. -If it is an allergy - see a dermatologist. -Use Eco One Natural enzymes to reduce the amount of sanitizer needed in the water. | -Check your water frequently to ensure proper pH and sanitizer level. -Use EcoONE to reduce the amount of chemicals needed in your tub. |
| Cloudy Water | -Organic particles in the water that are too small for the filter. | -Use EcoOne Monthly treatment. -If you are not on Eco One - use a Clarifier. | Follow the procedures above. |
